Officers’ Shako Plate c1831

A simpler design for officers' shako plates was adopted in the early 1830s to replace the first pattern. It is likely that new officers would have adopted this while officers who had served prior to 1829 would have retained their old badges. The design was similar to the belt plate, having a silver horse and gilt VIII on red velvet. The style of the motto on the garter is fretted.
