Officers’ Shako Plate c1835

The bell-top shako had several small alterations before it was replaced by the Albert shako in 1844. This third pattern shako plate was introduced in the mid 1830s. It retains the Hanoverian crown so must be pre-1837 when Victoria acceded to the throne. The garter and motto has, in this case, been replaced by the Hanoverian motto NEC ASPERA TERRENT (Difficulties do not deter us).
