This star plate was worn on the short-lived shako introduced in 1855 when uniforms changed from the tailed coatee to the double-breasted tunic. It is four and one eighth inches deep and three and five eighths wide. Most other regiments had the number on black leather in the centre, but the King’s were distinguished with this well sculpted silver horse on a crimson velvet backing (faded to light brown here).
