This unusual silver badge was auctioned by Bosleys and described in the catalogue as an officer’s pagri badge ‘extremely fine and scarce, post 1866’. The 2nd Battalion of the King’s Regiment served in India from 1877 and fought in the 2nd Afghan War of 1878-80. This badge must have been worn on the white pagri that was worn on the white foreign service helmet in dress uniform. The garter is in rich blue enamel and the red centre is described as translucent.
