The Infantry adopted the blue helmet in 1878 and the badge was this pattern but with VIII added to the centre. In 1881 the number eight was discontinued and ‘Liverpool’ added to the title. The silver horse and motto NEC ASPERA TERRENT were the central devices on a red velvet backing. And the title THE LIVERPOOL REGIMENT on a silver scroll below the garter.
