Private James Colligan


James Colligan was killed in action on 26 June 1916 during the enemy shelling of the forward trenches at Maricourt. Private Colligan served in the 20th Battalion, King’s Liverpool Regiment. This was the 4th City (Liverpool Pals). He was married and had two children. The casualties were 11 dead and 45 wounded. The 11 men were originally buried in Maricourt Military Cemetery, his body was moved to the Cerisy Gailly Military Cemetery. His headstone is engraved with the epitaph ‘The Supreme Sacrifice’.
