Major-General Frederick Hammersley


Major-General Frederick Hammersley was in command of XI division despite having had a nervous breakdown of some kind just a year earlier. He would prove to be a less than dynamic commander and was far too cautious for the mission at hand. By August 23rd he had been relieved of his command and removed from the Peninsular by an exasperated Hamilton.
