Middlesex Duke of Cambridge’s Hussars, Yeomanry Cavalry

Private, Mounted Drill Order c1894

Drill order consisted of a waist length green stable jacket with black velvet collar and cuffs, worn with the same blue breeches as used in dress uniform. These had a double red stripe down the side. The forage cap was green with a red cap band, having no button on the top. The jacket was fastened with small brass buttons and had a yellow edge to the shoulder straps. The white leather pouch belt has a black ammunition pouch with a regimental badge in the middle. His cavalry sword is slightly curved and normally kept in the scabbard fixed to the near side of his saddle. A folded blue great coat is strapped to the front of the saddle over a pair of leather wallets. His carbine is kept in a bucket holster. The bridle is shown clearly in this photo with the older pattern bit and regimental bit boss.
