Middlesex Duke of Cambridge’s Hussars, Yeomanry Cavalry

Trumpeters in Undress c1900

This photo of father and son in undress uniform shows the green serge frock being worn which at this stage has the steel shoulder chains that became the distinction of the cavalry. The Trumpet Corporal has slightly padded gold lace stripes with an embroidered crossed trumpet badge above, and the regimental embroidered NCO’s arm badge of a Victorian crown. The caps for the young Trumpeter and the NCO are of the same pattern; green with a scarlet cap-band that is edged with gold braid. The boy has white sword slings hanging from a hidden waist-belt, joined together when not carrying a sword. They are in walking out order with white gloves and riding crops.
