Lieutenant A Percy Palmer DSO


A Percy Palmer started as a Trooper in the 34th Company IY but was commissioned on 19 Oct 1900. At Reitpan on 6 Jan 1901 he was shot at and later found three bullet holes in his uniform as well as being slightly wounded. he also fought at Fouriesburg Mill on 20 Feb 1901. At Thaba Patschoa, Warringham Store, on 17 March 1901 he left the IY, and joined Baden-Powell’s South African Constabulary at Bloemfontein. He was promoted to captain and decided to stay in South Africa. He had previous experience in the USA, British Columbia and Australia. The photo shows him in the uniform of the South African Constabulary.
