Middlesex Duke of Cambridge’s Hussars, Yeomanry Cavalry

Yeoman 1893

The uniform and equipment of the Yeomanry was partly supplied by the regiment and partly by the man. This illustration by P W Reynolds from a photo is dated 1893-4 and shows the busby, tunic, sheepskin, sword, knot, belts, carbine and collar-chain provided by the CO; and the gloves, pantaloons (breeches), boots, saddle and girth provided by the soldier. The breastplate mentioned is the regimental badge, shaped like the bit boss, that was attached to the Y joint of the martingale on the horse’s chest. The sword is attached to the saddle and has a horizontal strap extending to a point near the man’s leg.
