Artillery Officers c1807

The set of military prints by Goddard and Booth in the early 19th century have this one showing two Royal Artillery officers. The one on the left, in a cocked hat is foot artillery and the one on the left is RHA. The Tarleton helmet is depicted as very high, with a tall white plume on the left side. The turban is black. His waist-length blue jacket has red facings and gold lace across the chest. The cuffs have an abundance of gold braid at this stage although the collar has only one line of braid. Both officers have crimson sashes but the knots are on different sides. The foot artillery officer carries his sword slung from a shoulder belt but the RHA officer has his on a waist-belt. In Mercer’s journal he talks of some Troops wearing the sword on a waist-belt and others using a shoulder-belt.
