Mounted Officer, Marching Order, 1821

In 1821 Heath published a small series of prints that included this image of an officer in marching order. This differed from review order in that the trousers, or cossacks, are pale blue with a red or gold stripe (in this reproduction it is difficult to say). His pouch-belt is white leather with a black leather pouch. However, the sabretache is the dress version, with a gold lace edge and embroidered crown and cypher. Also the shabraque is the dress uniform accessory when it would be expected that a simple black sheepskin would cover the saddle in this order of dress. The Tarleton helmet with gilt chin-chain is worn but the white plume has been removed.
