Officers in Undress, 1836

The Horse Artillery pelisse is more convincingly drawn in this painting by P W Reynolds. It is probably based on a Spooner print, but also could be based on a Heath print c1836 of a Horse Artillery Troop on exercise. The black cording on this cold weather jacket is black, and has 3 rows of olivet buttons. His shako is a wet weather undress cap without cap lines. He has an undress sabretache which has the Royal Arms above a gun and motto. The officer behind him is in the artillery frock-coat with ornate shoulder scales, and a wet weather forage cap. He has a white waist-belt for his sword, worn over a red sash.
