Gunner in New Uniform 1856

The new pattern of cording on the jackets was similar for officers and other ranks, with only one row of buttons. The artist, W Sharpe, appears to have had some trouble with the shape of the Austrian knots on the sleeves and they are not quite to scale. The black fur busby has an all white horsehair plume. In 1853 the bearskin was changed to seal skin, 8 inches high, and the cap lines changed from red to yellow. He wears a white leather pouch-belt but we cannot tell if there is a spring clip for a carbine. The pattern of sword was changed in 1853 and this seems shorter and straighter that the previous type, and has a brass hilt.
