Helmet Badge 1793

An early 1794 portrait of an officer of the RHA shows a similar badge to this on the right side of the Tarleton helmet, or Light Dragoon Cap. So this badge, although not identifiable as Artillery is considered the first badge worn by the RHA. The crown is Georgian and the cypher is that of King George III. The garter has the old French motto HONI SOIT QUI MAL Y PENSE.
