Officers’ Bullion Badges QE2

The left hand badge is worn on the beret of officer’s of the King’s Troop. The backing and centre of the badge are dark blue.

The badge second from the left is worn by officers of the 3rd Regiment RHA. It has a dark blue backing but a red centre. Some sources claim that the red centre is in recognition of 2nd Lt George Ward Gunn of J Battery who won the VC on 21 Nov 1941 at Sidi Rezegh.

The badge second from the right is on a maroon backing and has a maroon centre. This is worn on the maroon berets of officers of the 7th (Parachute) Regiment RHA. This regiment originated in WW2 as 33rd Airborne Light Regiment RA. In 1977 they became a field regiment and had to relinquish the maroon para beret for a blue one. But they adopted the maroon backing in recognition of its service as an airborne regiment. In 1984 they were once more a parachute regiment and reverted to the maroon beret, keeping the maroon backed badge.

The badge on the right is worn on the coloured side hat worn by officers of the RHA. It is backed with scarlet cloth and has a scarlet centre.
