No.4 Fire 1846

Campion’s fourth print in the series is titled ‘Fire (Right Flank Thrown back for Action - Right.)’ The loader stands with his back to us so that we see his white gloves hanging from his carbine belt. As he had to handle the ammunition it would be reasonable to assume that the gloves had to be kept clean. The firer touches the match to the vent. The sergeant-major has layed the gun and keeps an eye on the trajectory of the ball or shrapnel. A mounted officer also looks on to check the accuracy of fire. A detail is below this caption.
