Off Wheeler Draught Horse 1861

Near Wheeler Draught Horse 1861 The strong-looking horse in this 1861 photo from Major Tylden’s book Horses and Saddlery shows the near side wheeler which was ridden by a driver. The saddle and stirrups are in evidence and there is a rolled cloak and cape on the front of the saddle. Behind the saddle can be seen a circular water bottle and a coiled forage cord. The collar at the base of the horse’s neck continued in use up until the turn of the century.
