Gun Team 1862

This watercolour by Orlando Norie gives us an informal view of a gun team preparing for practice firing. The gun is partially on the extreme left of the picture and can be seen in another photo on this page. The limber has been opened and a gunner collects a shell for loading. There are four draught horses on this sub-division. Four more draught horses are on the right of the picture although our view of their carriage is obscured by a mounted NCO with his back to us. It is probably the ammunition wagon as there is no sign of a gun there. The men all wear the tall busbies of the 1860s.
