12-Pounder Drill 1899

The Horse Artillery adopted the 12-pounder breechloading gun in the 1890s until it was replaced by the 13-pounder QF gun around 1904. It could fire a 12.5lb shrapnel shell 5,600 yards. The gunner in the foreground works with another gunner on the other wheel to adjust the direction of the gun. Another gunner is holding two cases that contain the shells, while the sergeant in a gold corded jacket checks the aim. There are chocks under the wheels for the recoil.
