Standing by the Gun 1903

This second photo in the series of 1903 images sees the portly sergeant instructing the other three men of the gun team. The Bombardier leans forward slightly to carry out some allotted task while the others await their turn. Ammunition can be seen on the ground between these men. The gun is the 12-pounder breech loader, soon to be replaced by the 13-pounder QF gun that was destined to remain the armament of the Riding Troops for the next 100 years or more.
