Royal Horse Artillery

Ceremonial Drive c1908

In the 20th century dress uniform for the Royal Horse Artillery was confined to special parades and ceremonials. This excellent painting by Harry Payne demonstrates his skill at depicting horses, and his close observation of the details of the new simplified harness. At this point we can see that the white cross-belt for the haversack is no longer worn by either drivers or gunners.
