The King’s Visit 1947


This historic photo was taken on 24 Oct 1947 on the occasion of the visit of King George VI to St John’s Wood. It was on this day that the Riding Troop became the King’s Troop. The King and the officers are seated outside the Officer’s Mess. The CO at that time was still called the Superintendent, Major J A Norman DSO. The Adjutant was Captain W J W Froud, the Troop Captain was Quartermaster T M Sutton, and the Section Commanders were E A Boylan, S P H Symonds and P R Body.
