Officer’s Sabretache c1820

This is a Georgian sabretache worn by an officer whose battery had not served in the Peninsula War or Waterloo. Those batteries that had served in the Napoleonic Wars were permitted to have battle honours embroidered on the officer’s sabretaches. A memorial to Major Norman Ramsay, who was killed at Waterloo, has items of equipment carved on it, amongst which is a sabretache with a Sphinx on it. Ramsay had served in Egypt in 1801 and so was entitled to this battle honour.
