Caton Woodville’s painting of E Battery bringing the guns out of action at Maiwand was exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1882 to critical acclaim. Other artists depicted the same battle, Godfrey Giles based his painting on the recollections of Sergeant Paton. James Beadle and James Magnus also painted the action.
