Joan Wanklyn’s illustration of the Battle of Waterloo is based on the words of Captain Mercer who famously commanded G Troop. The highly trained gunners were able to work at a frantic speed to maintain rapid fire against the French cavalry. Although it was a kill-or-be-killed situation their hard work created mounds of dead and wounded horses and men.
