Major 1754

The portrait is of Major Robert Douglas, 19th Regiment of Foot, by Allan Ramsay. It is signed and dated 1754. The coat is scarlet and the lapels are very dark green. The collar and lapels are edged with gold lace, as is the front edge of the buff waistcoat. Buttons are plain gilt. The black tricorn hat appears to be without a lace edge although other portraits of this period show laced hats.
