Mounting Guard 1909

In 1898 the Yorkshire Regiment were granted permission to have green facings after 17 years of white. The tunic of the O R dress uniform changed in 1902 from the jam-pot cuff to the pointed pattern. The green collar and cuffs were plain but the scarlet shoulder straps were edged in white, with a brass curved title. These straps were altered to the facing colour in 1913. In Guard Order the white waist-belt had a single ammunition pouch attached. The guard detail carry their rifles at the slope which must have caused problems if there was oil on the rifle, especially where medals were soiled. The rifle is the Short Magazine Lee Enfield (SMLE) .303 no.1 Mark III, with a 1907 Hook Quillon Bayonet.
