Drum Major c1970

This photo, taken at an odd angle, was published in Military Bands and their Uniforms by Jack Cassin-Scott and John Fabb (Blandford 1978). He is in dress uniform which had been revived around the 1970s. It is useful to see parts of the uniform close up. His rank badges include four chevrons and a crown with a drum badge above.  His collar and cuff are edged in thin braid, and he has fringed wings on his shoulders. The sash of office is embroidered with the regimental badge and battle honours. And he has gold aiguillettes on his left shoulder. He wears short white gloves instead of gauntlets as worn by some drum-majors. The mace is different from the one carried by the 1997 Drum Major.
