Private Johnson at Belle Isle

This 19th century print depicts the bravery of Private Sam Johnson who fought and killed 6 Frenchmen to save the life of an officer. He is shown wearing a tricorn hat although he was a grenadier and would have worn a mitre cap like the Frenchmen he is fighting. He was wounded in this action and afterwards promoted to sergeant.
