1st Battalion Queen’s Colour 1989

On 24 June 1989 new Colours were presented to the Green Howards by King Olav V of Norway, the Colonel-in-Chief of the regiment. This Queen’s Colour was photographed in 1997 or before, so it is safe to assume it is the same Colour that was presented. The regiment had adopted the name Green Howards officially in 1920, and Colours after that date would have had that regimental title on the centre circle. Inside it, however, is the rest of the title; Alexandra Princess of Wales’s Own Yorkshire Regiment. Above that is the QE2 crown, and on either side the emblazoned battle honours for WW1 and WW2 which are repeated on the other side. In the top corner, nearest the pole is the Roman numeral I for the 1st Battalion.
