1st Battalion Regimental Colour 1989

The beautifully embroidered Union Wreath of roses, thistles and shamrocks is clearly visible on this photo taken in 1997. It is the Regimental Colour presented to the regiment in 1989. The arrangement of the battle honours on a circular laurel wreath conforms to the regulations laid down in 1881. The lengthy regimental title is inscribed on the circle around the Green Howards badge. The battle honours are mostly legible but the two on the lower left side are: RELIEF OF KIMBERLEY and SOUTH AFRICA 1899-1902. The whole pattern is repeated on the other side.
