Ginnis

The Battle of Ginnis is mostly famous for the fact that the British soldiers wore red for the last time in battle. They were normally to be seen in khaki at this time, when stationed in hot climates. The print shows infantry in close order ranks firing on the Mahdists. The Yorkshire regiment, however, fought among the palm trees and in the streets of Kosha and Ginnis which would not have suited this sort of formation. The officer in the foreground carries a claymore sword which indicates that he is a Cameron Highlander as they were the only Scottish regiment at the battle.
