Officers in India

This group photo of officers of the 19th Regiment was taken in Peshawar c1866. The CO, with a large moustache, sits in the middle, Colonel Robert Onesiphorus Bright. They are all wearing the unflattering scarlet frock for hot climates. Their rank badges are embroidered and sewn on the collars. Most of them have a crimson silk sash on their left shoulder. At the back of the group are Colour Sergeants holding the Colours which would bear the battle honours for ALMA, INKERMAN and SEVASTOPOL awarded in October 1855. The Colour Sergeants wear the first pattern white helmet for overseas service. They would have worn these and their scarlet frocks for the Black Mountain Expedition.
