Captain William Porter


William Porter was commissioned as an ensign in the 19th Foot on 28 Oct 1794. He was promoted to lieutenant on 8 Sep 1795, and captain on 9 July 1803. He retired on full pay and then served in the Royal Veteran Battalion until it was disbanded in 1812. He fought at the capture of Montevideo and the attack on Buenos Aires. He was in the Peninsula, being present at Rolica and Vimiera. The miniature shows him in the uniform of the 19th Foot c1803.
