Dutch Spice Fleet


The Dutch displaced the Portuguese and Spanish from their dominant commercial position in Asia and the Pacific in the Seventeenth Century. They were able to hold on to this position for over a century and embarked on their own exploration of the region in order to protect and enhance their trade routes.
