Pacific Prevailing Winds Map

Due to the reliance on sail power, prevailing winds and current directions were important to establish. The Admiralty recommended particular routes that ships should take in order to maximise speed in travelling between the far flung destinations of the Pacific. This map gives the distance in nautical miles between points. These routes were also followed by traders and missionaries who found the routes to be the most efficient available.
