Fort St. George

This picture shows an artist's view of what the settlement at Popham may have looked like. A pinnace can clearly be seen and the colony did indeed depend on the sea for its existence. Unfortunately, the colonists were unaware of just how exposed and treacherous a place Popham could be once winter had set in. The weather was far colder than anything experienced back in England and storms battered the coastline.
