Salt River Works

This picture shows just how industrialised a nation South Africa at least was becoming by the outbreak of World War One. This photograph shows field guns being prepared in the Salt River Works near Cape Town. Some of these guns were used in the campaign against the Germans in South-West Africa whilst others were sent to Europe to help in the general war effort.
