Godfrey Francis Harris MC


This is the picture of Godfrey Harris witht he Commander of HMS Lynx. This picture was kindly donated by the son Patrick Harris (who is wearing the commander's cap in the picture). Godfrey Harris was resposnible for introducing the very first stamp books on the island, 500 in pale blue covers, followed by 2000 in maroon covers. He also produced a set of "fish" stamps which were issued in pounds, shillings and pence and which were later re-issued in cents and rands. He left the island on HMS Protector in April, 1959.
