1667 Map of Willoughbyland

This 1667 map shows the Surinam River with various plantations alongside its banks and those of its tributaries. Transport by water was essential for getting supplies to the plantations and getting the product out. Overland transport was very rare, nearly all communication was by boat for local connections or ship for further afield.
