A slightly stodgy production, missing much of the wit and depth of Kipling's book. However, it remains a lot more faithful to the plot than Disney has ever been able to manage. This is a beautifully shot film that is let down by some rather starchy acting and some off-putting lip-synching. The special effects with the animals betrays the age and technology used to produce this film. In spite of all its problems it's still a respectable interpretation.
