Batty and Co's The Great Nabob

Here, the company is playing on one of the oldest of imperial imageries: The Great Nabob holding court over his minions. This would have been a familiar mental image and would have been used to conjure up an exoticism and mystique for the product but also associated with success and patronage. The Nabobs were famous for making their fortunes out east in exotic parts of the world and where they held untold powers over their subject peoples. Trying to please powerful people like these would have been a tricky job. Fortunately, this company thinks that they, at least, have an answer. The international dimension of this advertisement is unmistakeable.
