Still in the Boer war, this image is a call to imperial unity in an attempt to counter the dangers imposed by the threat of a military loss to the Boers. It seems incomprehensible that such a small group of farmers could pose so many problems to Britain and its empire. Patriotic fervour and unity were required to rally the imperial populace unaccustomed to possible military defeat.
