The Heart of the Empire


London had become 'The New Rome' and was the most important city in the World by the time this painting was completed by Niels Moller Lund in 1904. The wealth from the Empire had allowed the metropolis to rebuild itself and expand in an impressively self-confident manner. It was the centre of a global trading system and attracted talent and investment from all across the globe.
