Anson's Centurion rounding the Horn

As part of the plan to harry the Spanish in the Pacific during the War of Jenkin's Ear, Anson was despatched on what would become a remarkable four year long circumnavigation of the World. In many ways, his exploits recreated the hazards and rewards of Drake's voyages two centuries earlier. Although Anson had access to better technology and knowledge. During this voyage, the Royal Navy also pioneered the concept of ship to ship replenishment in order to support the expedition.
