Fiji's Army

Fiji has undergone several military coups as it attempts to deal with the legacy of imperial population movements. Large numbers of Indian coolies were moved to Fiji to work on the plantations and most remained to form a multiracial population. However, many native Fijians have remained suspicious of these immigrant families and the army has stepped in numerous times to prevent a multi-racial government coming or remaining in power.
