First Shots of the Crimean War

Although famous for its land battles on the Crimean Peninsular, the naval war was also very active during this conflict. An effective blockade of Russia was put in place in an attempt to apply economic pressure and to limit Russia's ability to wage war.

This painting was by Richard Henry Nibbs and entitled: First Shot of the War, 6 April 1854
