Huka Falls, North Island, New Zealand

This painting by Charles Blomfield shows how the latest Dominion to enter the British Empire could appear both familiar and exotic to the British. New Zealand may have been relatively small to the other Dominions but it joined them as an equal. This was galling to many Indians who were claiming that their far larger and far more economically significant colony should have been given Dominion status before the likes of New Zealand.
